The story behind cairns
A cairn is a human-made pile, or stack, of stones. They have been used for a variety of purposes such as trail markers or landmarks in many parts of the world. Mainly in mountainous areas, as there are plenty of building material and the necessary visibility for them to function as trail- or landmarks. They helped people navigate and survive in nature. In Scandinavia these cairns are in particular connected with the selection of transport routes by land and water. Furthermore, they have also been used as:
- Burial monuments
- For defence and hunting
- For ceremonial purposes
- To locate buried items such as food or objects.
Besides the mountainous areas where they are most numerous, they can also be found in deserts, on moorland and in tundra. They all vary in size from small stone markers to artificial hills and they are all quite beautiful.
The Guiding Cairns; Outdoor Collection logo and theme was inspired by the old concept behind these so-called cairns. The idea behind this brand was to create a high-quality collection to outdoor enthusiasts. The collection consists of stylish and practical items produced by the finest quality fabric, where comfort and durability are some of the highest priorities. It helps you survive and navigate in nature, just as the cairns once did.
